This castle rises in a beautiful Umbrian hamlet which is 500 mt above the sea level. You can reach by driving along the panoramic hilly road called ’via di Castelleone”, just 4,5 km away from the chief town.
This is a historic-artistic-architectural monument dating back to from the 12nd-16th-19th centuries. and protected by the Superintendence for Architectural, Landscape, Historical, Artistic and Ethno-Anthropological Heritage of Umbria .
The property, whose walls consist primarily of stones, ancient brick and plastered parts, measures more than 2000 sq.m. (plus about 500 sq.m. for the attics) and comprises almost 100 rooms. It is nestled in a plot of land of approx. 8500 sq.m. with fruit trees and centuries-old oaks and partly used as park and terraced garden with a12,5 x 6 mt swimming pool at the feet of the walls with a jacuzzi of 8 sq.m. Adjacent to the swimming pool there is a stone ans ancient brick well. It also boasts an inner cloister with ancient brick well-tank.
The castle is composed of 3 main buildings that represents three different historical moments:
1) Medieval period (12th cent.): walls that are 2,5 mt thick and converge on the square Lombard Tower (3,6 mt high) on 5 levels.
2) Renaissance period (15-16th cent.): the main building which comprises the Mastio or Main Grait Tower on 5 levels
3) Neo-Gothic period (19th cent.) representing that part of the building which overlooks the hamlet and which encloses the Belvedere Tower.
It is composed of of seven suites-double bedrooms with possibility of an extra bed. Each one has wide bathrooms or salle de bain equipped with the latest technologies such as whirlpool tubs and showers with aromatherapy, chromo-therapy, ozone therapy, turkish bath and radio. The manor apartments are on two floors, and have 4 double bedrooms with possibility of an extra bed (each with private bathroom equipped as above).
In the Lombard Tower there are other double bedrooms on 4 levels linked by a spiral staircase. On the first level of the Lombard Tower there are 2 bathrooms. In the Foresteria you will find two bedrooms (one double and one single) with bathroom.
It has 18 bathrooms and 3 kitchens, one on the ground floor, one on the first floor where there are the main apartments and a kitchen in the small apartment on the second floor.
On the ground floor there are many large lounges, the biggest measures more than 100 sq.m.
Linked to the wide kitchen of the castle you will find a large portico with stained glass window that leads to 2 small covered lounges that belong to the cloister. Their give access to the Lombard Tower.
A wooden stairs leads to the main floor where from the suite of the Countess Borgia there is a doorway leading to a large panoramic terrace that overlooks the ancient cloister and the inner courtyard.
From the tower you can access to the terraces located outside the castle and over the porch. From here a stairway carved in the stone leads to the top of the tower itself which is used as a solarium. The main floor also comprises the Golden Hall, the Old Library, the Office and the Renaissance room where you can enter the main tower which is divided into three levels: La Salle de Bain (with frescos), the Bridal lounge and the suite of the Bridal Tower. Walls and ceilings are decorated with frescos. From the main floor you can reach the Great Hall of the Knights that is entirely decorated with tempera paintings. From this area a covered outdoor stairs leads to the top of the Belvedere Tower which offers stunning views.
The total perimeter of the property is approximately 800 mt. including three roads. The Castle has nine entrances, three from the park (with large wrought iron and automated gates), one from an inner courtyard, one from the park and located on the main facade of the building, three from the inner suburb along Via della Libertà and one along vicolo dell’Ulivo.
